Years ago when my kids were little I started a blog. We called it Flock of Baileys. You get it right?
One of my favorite movies of all time is The Wedding Singer. There is a scene in the movie when Robbie Hart is at the ticket counter and the clerk asks him “Do you like Flock of Seagulls?” and Robbie answers, “I can see you do”. So funny. Well I guess not that funny when you can’t see the guys hair. So watch that movie if you haven’t. Seriously so great! Okay that was a tangent. I also chose the name because of the reference to birds. You see my middle name is Ren. I’ll tell you how I got the name in another post so we can get to the point of this one.
Flock of Baileys was a family blog. All about our life and our kids. It was a scrapbook of sorts. Everyone had one back then. The sad news is, I just stopped updating it one day (I’ll tell you why in yet another post). A few years ago we randomly came across it with a search on google. I loved looking back on my posts. I regretted not keeping up with it.
So that brings me to the WHY of this website and my desire to blog again. When you are young you think you will always remember all the little things that bring happiness and meaning to your life. The truth is we forget. We think we won’t but we do.
Years ago I was sitting at my sister’s kitchen table and there was a shelf close by with recipe books on it. I was looking at them when I came across a handmade one. Everything was hand written. It said I love you in different languages on the back side of each page. There were stickers of flowers scattered throughout. There were recipe cards attached using little sticker photo corners. It looked as though different people had written on those. There were photographs of our nieces and nephews scattered throughout the book as well. As I looked through the pages I was trying to figure out who made it for her. The handwriting was not the same in the book as it was on the cards. It was neat and had an artistic flair. I knew it had to be from a family member. There are seven of us kids, so lots of possibilities. I finally asked my sister who made the book for her. She looked at me surprised. “You did! Don’t you remember? You gave it to me for my wedding!” I had not remembered. It felt familiar but I couldn’t remember making it.
This is why I have decided to blog again. To remember the little things. To document my creativity. To keep a record of what I am doing and who I am doing it with and for.
I am starting a new chapter in my life as I begin my journey as a real estate agent. A career that will push me to learn new things while drawing on all my experience and talents. I want to have a place to share and keep a record. I hope you will find what I am sharing valuable and helpful.
